Aubrey Mae Zeyer: 2012 Leapling

Oh Aubrey, you are here!!!!

This morning, February 29th, 2012 at 6:15 we headed to the hospital for a scheduled induction. By 7:45 I was hooked up to pitocin and an IV. Things were pretty easy at this point, and the contractions were pretty light. By about 9:45/10:00am Dr. Glen Lovelace, my OBGYN, came in to see how far dilated and effaced I was. At this point I was 2 ½ centimeters dilated and 65/75% effaced. While Dr. Lovelace was checking, it felt like I peed my pants, which I knew from Owen’s labor and delivery experience, that it was my water breaking. Wahoo! I waited out the contractions until about 10:30-11:00 and needed an epidural. Hats off to those Moms who can do it without and epidural, but in my book that’s the only way to go!

Once the epidural kicked in my right side was completely numb, however my left side was a little numb but nothing to complain about. Two and a half hours later I was REALLY feeling the contractions. It was as if the epidural didn’t even take effect on my left side. Ooooeeee it was painful, so painful that I couldn’t talk to anyone, had to breath through each contraction, and hold on to the hospital bed rail for serious support and relief. At this point in time the nursing staff said I could have a new epidural, or begin pushing for Aubrey to come if I was dilated and effaced enough. Low and behold it was time to push! I was very surprised to see that the contractions were nothing to complain about once I started pushing. I started pushing at 1:05pm and she arrived at 1:35pm. Not to shabby!

It was great that the pain of the contractions ceased immediately after she was born. I feel great now that we’re on day 2 in the hospital and I think most of that can be contributed to a short labor, less drugs, and knowing what to expect a second time around. We are sure happy Aubrey is here and doing so well. She has a little jaundice and we hope those levels will drop over the next few days as she nurses and we supplement with a little formula. All is well!
